Repeat Prescriptions
Requests for repeat prescriptions will be dealt with within two working days. For safety reasons we do not take requests for repeat prescriptions over the telephone.
Most prescriptions have a tear-off portion listing all your current medication. When you require a repeat, put a tick against the item and return the form to the surgery. You may post it to us, hand it in at reception, or put it in the repeat prescription box in the waiting room. Alternatively you may request a repeat by letter or fax. If you would like us to return your prescription by post, please enclose a stamped addressed envelope and allow enough time for delivery.
At the bottom of the first page of your repeat prescription form there is a review date. You will normally need to see a doctor or nurse for a review of medication once this date is reached, before you can have another repeat prescription.
Several of the local pharmacies provide a service for ordering and collecting repeat prescriptions. Please speak to your pharmacy if you would like to make use of this.
Repeat dispensing is a new service that is available in cooperation with most pharmacies. If your repeat prescription is unlikely to change over a 6 or 12 month period you may be eligible for repeat dispensing. When you have a review with your doctor you may ask to take part in this. You need to elect one pharmacy to hold your prescriptions and agree that they and your doctor may need to share information about the scripts. You are then issued with prescriptions to cover the whole period until your next review, which you then take to the pharmacy. You will then collect your regular medication from the pharmacy without needing to visit the surgery until you are due for review.
