OUT OF HOURS SERVICE

When We Are Closed

Kingston CCG commission emergency medical care outside of our normal working hours (i.e. after 6.30pm and before 08.00am Monday to Friday plus all day on Weekends and Bank Holidays) through NHS 111. If you need to speak to a doctor outside normal surgery hours, please ring NHS 111.

In addition there is also an Extended Hours Primary Care Service which provides additional appointments for Kingston residents between the hours of 6.30pm - 20.00pm Monday to Friday plus 08.00am - 20.00pm on Saturdays and Sundays. The service runs from three 'hubs' across the borough as follows;

  • Merritt Medical Centre on Merritt Gardens in Chessington
  • Kingston Health Centre on Skerne Road in Kingston
  • Surbiton Health Centre on Ewell Road in Surbiton

The clinicians in these hubs will have full access to your medical records and are able to treat minor illnesses and injuries that would normally be seen at a GP practice.

This includes:

  • Minor illness such as headaches, dizziness, high temperatures and severe ‘flu-like’ symptoms and hayfever.
  • Minor cuts, bruises, burns and scalds
  • Strains and sprains
  • Minor infections including ear, nose and throat
  • Abdominal pain
  • Dermatology and skin complaints
  • Urgent prescription medicines

It excludes:

  • Conditions that warrant immediate direction to A&E such as chest pain and severe shortness of breath
  • Any pregnancy related issue
  • Exacerbations of long term conditions
  • Dental emergencies
  • Mental health emergencies
  • Follow up appointments

During the day Monday to Friday you can book appointments by contacting the reception staff here at the practice. If you want to be seen in this service on the weekends, you need to contact them directly by telephone on 020 3841 9942.

You can find out full details about the service and how to make appointments in the Stay Well in Kingston leaflet.

NHS 111

NHS 111 is a new, free to call, telephone number being introduced to help make it easier for people to access their local health services.

Calls to the NHS 111 service from landlines and mobile phones are free and the service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to respond to people’s healthcare needs, when:

  • they need medical help fast, but it’s not a 999 emergency
  • they don’t know who to call for medical help or don't have a GP to call
  • they think they need to go to A&E or another NHS urgent care service
  • they require health information or reassurance about what to do next

Calls to NHS 111 are handled by a team of highly trained call advisers, supported by experienced clinicians. Using an appropriate clinical assessment system, questions are asked to assess callers’ needs and determine the most appropriate course of action without the need for re-triage.

This includes ambulance dispatch, referral to a service within the NHS, referral to an alternative service, and advice, reassurance and information, including for self-care.

Patients of Hook Surgery can be connected to this service if they ring either of our usual numbers 0208 397 6361 or 0208 397 3179 outside normal surgery hours. You will get straight through to the NHS111 service . If you choose this route however you will be charged for your call as usual.

The practice will be closed on all UK Bank Holidays.

If you need to see a doctor when your surgery is closed please telephone 0203 841 9942 to book an appointment in the Extended Access Service.
